Visual Arts
Students
face many challenges and endure many experiences
throughout their lives and art education is one way in
which they can learn to express themselves and record
their thoughts, feelings and ideas through the
expressive media of art.
The Visual Arts courses at Lakeside Academy are designed
to allow students to explore a variety of art materials,
art making techniques, social and global issues and
ideas in a safe and positive environment. Students will
demonstrate an understanding of art theories, styles,
developments, appropriate terminology, as well as
aesthetic and critical awareness. Students will develop
skills for perceiving and responding to art through the
study of art history and the contributions to the arts
by individuals and cultural groups of the past and
present.
Students
will be encouraged to apply critical thinking and
problem solving strategies to reflect on and respond to
their own work and to the work of others. They will keep
a record of their ideas, thought processes and
experimentation in a workbook/sketchbook so that they
are able to see their projects develop from an idea to
an end product through an important creative process.
Throughout the school year, students’ art work is
displayed around the school. Students also have the
opportunity to showcase their art work in the annual
Passion For The Arts Show that takes place in the
Spring. This show represents the Lakeside Arts
Department by celebrating music, drama, dance and the
visual arts. Students can also contribute to the
aesthetic development of the school by participating in
the school’s Mural/Art Club.
