Drama
The Drama
course at Lakeside Academy is designed to open students’ eyes to the world of
dramatic acting and production. In the lower levels students will learn the
basics of simple mime, mirroring, acting and improvisation, and will be
encouraged to develop and reflect on their technique. In the higher levels,
students will use this basic knowledge of theatre arts and expand by learning
different acting methods and drawing from their own experiences in the creation
of scripts and characters.
Students will also work with a variety of classic and modern scripts with
varying subject matter. With the writing of short sketches and routines students
will begin to learn the process of script writing, and the importance of a good
script as a foundation for a popular, or meaningful story. Proper use of the
stage and understanding of acting techniques are also studied, encouraging the
students to hone their skills and participate in a variety of acting exercises.
As Drama actually means “to do” participation is a key factor in class success.
In participating in individual and group activities students will work on being
confident in front of audiences and on developing a poised and memorable stage
presence.
In addition to the Drama classes taught, Lakeside also proudly presents a full
length theatrical production each year, as well as the Passion for the Arts
festival in the spring. Both events serve to showcase the talents of the very
creative students at Lakeside Academy.
