There
are two centres for students who need to make up pre-requisite
courses for college entrance or want to complete their High School
leaving.
1. PACC (located in the
old Riverside High School in Lasalle.)
2. PLACE CARTIER (located
in the old Beaconsfield Elementary School)
Both offer a variety of courses that can lead to a Secondary V
graduation, or meet the requirements for entry to various CEGEP
programs.
An Adult Ed. course equivalent to a ten month course in a regular high
school is generally completed in no more than four months, and some
terms (more intensive) are even shorter. The trade-off is that fewer
courses can be scheduled at a time.
My experience in working at Adult Ed. and sending hundreds of students,
is that the students who are serious and able to discipline themselves
to work do very well. A student must be in his/her seventeenth year
before he/she is allowed to attend an Adult education institution. You
cannot take an Adult Education course while attending a regular high
school.
There is a registration fee when a student signs up (under $100), but
the courses themselves are free. The students are generally responsible
for buying their books (which they can keep).
I have attached sample schedules. They are posted as examples only, and
liable to be out of date as you read this. Please contact the Adult
Education centres directly to register or get the up-to-date
information. Please note that graduation
requirements from Adult Ed. are slightly different from regular high
school. It is important that a perspective student sees an Adult
Education Counsellor to
ensure the right courses.
