Ms. Natalie Gasparini - School Counsellor
Please note that Bruce Corbett is in on Monday and Wednesday only.
COUNSELLING SERVICES
PERSONAL COUNSELLING
This year, Natalie Gasparini is seeing
students
who have personal concerns.
ACADEMIC COUNSELLING
Students from grade 7 to 11 are invited to come and see Bruce Corbett about the variety of courses offered at Lakeside and the implications of the various levels. Grade 10 and 11 students may explore CEGEP and University requirements.
VOCATIONAL COUNSELLING
All students are welcome to do vocational tests and research vocations that interest them. Mr. Corbett is pleased to announce that CAREER CRUISING is available to any interested student. It includes extensive information on jobs, universities, etc, and may be run from home! There is an included vocational test, which is highly recommended. For the password, please contact Mr. Corbett or Ms. Gasparini.
STUDENT EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
Each year some employers do contact us with summer jobs ( typically summer camps, golf courses, and working for local municipalities) and such part-time work as baby-sitting, leaf raking , etc. The Counsellors will post and advertise them as they come in.
As well, there are addresses and handouts for interested students. (See below)
SOCIAL WORK
This year we are again lucky enough to have Ms. Angela Cabral.
Families are welcome to
request
support
if they are having trouble communicating with their teen-age
son or daughter. The family counselling
is free, and may be at home, in the school, or at the CLSC.
Since our Social Worker
actually
works
for the CLSC, she is also in a unique situation to arrange
referrals and help co-ordinate the
whole range of services provided by the CLSCs.
TUTORING SERVICES
Mr. Corbett has a list of students who have volunteered for our Peer Tutoring Program. There is a cost, ranging from $8.00 to $20.00 an hour. I have a current list of teacher tutors, but am always looking for good CEGEP and university tutors. If you have a son or daughter who graduated from Lakeside and might be interested, please have them call me!
CAREER ORIENTATION
With the help
of Nancy Battet at the board, I hope to be able to offer the
Secondary 4 and 5 students the chance to visit industry and 'try out' a
job for a day. Interested students may first be asked to write a
vocational interest test.
