MOTHERS HELPERS
Let neighbours know you are looking. There are a large number of Mother's Helpers required yearly. You may be required to do some housework and you'd better like children!

RECREATION INDUSTRY
Local municipalities provide summer recreational activities for children. Go to you city hall and apply. Jobs here include: Parks and Playground Workers, Pool Lifeguard, etc. NOTE: These job often fill in February!

SUMMER CAMPS
We have lists in the Guidance Office of all Quebec and Ontario Summer Camps. Remember camps require kitchen help, riding camps hire stable help, and golf courses require caddies. You may apply to a camp application service, or (preferred) write directly to the camp of your choice.

FARMING AND AGRICULTURE
Additional hands are required for outdoor farm work, usually with 8 - 12 hour days, doing such jobs as planting, cultivating, weeding, picking and packaging. The Canada Farm Labour Pool Program is a joint Federal and Provincial effort. You may use its services to locate jobs, usually crop harvesting. Although the work is hard, the wages are usually good.

BUSINESS AND MANUFACTURING
Students find jobs here as factory or warehouse help, office workers or door-to-door distributors.

Remember family business offer employment possibilities. Remind your parents there may be tax advantages if they hire you, if you go through Canada Manpower!

STUDENT PAINTERS
Check your neighbourhood for signs and phone numbers. They are always looking for keen and hardworking students. The Guidance department will keep and post a list of any who approach us.

GOLF COURSES
Many golf courses are looking for part-time employees. The jobs often start in the spring. Hours can be flexible. If interested, you should approach the clubs individually.

CASUAL OR PART TIME JOBS
Particularly good for younger students who don't meet age qualifications or who want some leisure time.

Examples: Plant tending, gardening, landscaping, dog walking, painting, baby-sitting, window washing, etc.

Knock on doors. Talk to neighbours. Offer them a "mowing contract" for the summer. You have to find and fill a need.

How To Land A Summer Job
Remember to seek out the help of friends or relatives. They know who you should contact and can give you a personal reference. Remember to check the ads in the newspaper. Notices for summer jobs start in March and peak in April. Knock on doors. Go by yourself to smaller firms. Ask at a reception desk for the person in charge of personnel. Employment agencies, such as Office Overload, exist in large cities. Register with them, but remember they keep a portion of your salary as commission.

When you apply for a job remember:

Be polite and friendly

Do not smoke or chew gum

Dress neatly

Speak and write your best English

Apply alone
