Frequently Asked Questions

Currently, Lakeside Academy has an IB enriched program for students who pass a test to qualify for entrance into the program. In the 2010–2011 school year, we expanded the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) to include all students. The IBMYP is a philosophy and framework for teaching that is student centred. It aims to make education relevant by relating it to the community and world at large. Students development analytical, critical thinking and inquiry skills in order to assess issues in the world and be able to address them. Students become problem solvers capable to making a positive contribution to society throughout their lives.

With this in mind, we direct you to the Frequently Asked Questions below and to the IB Middle Years Program link on the left side of the menu for more information.

Any increase in fees for students in programs other than the enriched program would be minimal, in the area of $10 to $20. Students in the enriched program already pay increased fees and this will continue.

How will this impact the education of my child?

Most of our teachers already teach IB students. Many of them already use the IB philosophy and teaching framework for their other classes as well. The IB philosophy underscores the teaching that presently takes place at Lakeside.

The IBMYP model of teaching is student centred and places importance on student inquiry. The fundamental concepts of the MYP were designed to provide students with the values and opportunities to develop sound judgement and include holistic learning, intercultural awareness and communication.

The areas of interaction provide the core of the MYP. Subjects taught through these contexts allow learning to focus on attitudes, values and skills.

The learner profile directs learning to focus on the development of the whole person.

Teaching through the IBMYP philosophy will support our commitment as a school to develop internationally minded future citizens who will be able to identify issues and know how to proceed to help create a better and more peaceful world.
