Parental Involvement

"When schools, families, and communities work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more."

- January 2003, National Center for Family & Community Connections with Schools

Parental involvement does not end when students reach high school. In fact, a parent’s presence in the high school is greatly needed. Studies show that when parents are involved in their child’s education, student achievement is increased. This happens regardless of the parent’s education, socio-economic and/or ethnic background.

The National Parent Teacher Association reported in 1997 that one of the most accurate predictors of student academic progress is the extent to which parents:

  1. Create a home environment that encourages learning

  2. Communicate high but reasonable expectations for their children’s achievement and future careers.

  3. Involve themselves in their children’s education at school and in the community.

Parental participation in their education benefits your children. They will obtain higher grades, achieve long-term academic success, develop positive attitudes toward school and behave better in school. Our educational programs will also be more successful and our schools will be more effective.

At Lakeside Academy, there are several ways in which parents can participate in their children’s education and daily “life”, as well as that of their peers.
