Alice!

On January 19th and 20th, the Lakeside Academy Drama Department presented its annual school play, a full-length rendition of Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s tale “Alice in Wonderland”. With a cast and crew of 50 students, the production, directed by Carin Schwartz and featuring Secondary II student Nora Zerczy in the title role played before a packed house and entertained the audience by bringing to life the story, which shows that a child’s imagination can take us to very magical places. The students worked tirelessly, with rehearsals beginning in September to expertly portray the quirky inhabitants of Wonderland, from talking flowers, animals and playing cards to the irrepressible Mad Hatter and tragic Humpty Dumpty. The audience was treated to a night of laughter and fun making the play a huge success.

Lakeside’s Golden Girls

Lakeside Academy Bantam Volleyball team won the gold in a dramatic playoff tournament at Lower Canada College. Despite playing teams seeded higher than them the girls came out and played their best ever volleyball to go undefeated for the entire tournament. Every game was a nail-biter, with the girls having to battle for every point against some strong opposition. Showing amazing character and will to win they came through, cheered on by some vocal parental support and buoyed by the excellent coaching of Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Zakutney. Another banner will now be added to the growing collection on the gymnasium wall and a life-long memory is added for the team.

Way to go girls!!

Crossing Over

Lakeside was delighted to host groups of grade 6 students from both Maple Grove Elementary and Dorval Elementary schools.

The morning of activities was designed to give the students a taste of high school life and help with the transition to larger surroundings. The kids took part in activities in music, art, science and physical education, all of which were animated by current Lakeside students.

Lakeside’s growing music reputation was certainly enhanced as Madame Blondin got each group to perform a rock piece in only 40 minutes. Mr. Peterdy took the students through an enjoyable range of small sided games and activities highlighting the range of options on offer from the gym department. Mr Cote, Mrs Reyes and Mr. Preston led the students on a bridge building business activity involving basic mechanics, advertising and accounting – and some very impressive structures were produced in only an hour.

Our visitors certainly seemed to enjoy the experience, our grade 10 and 11 animators learnt a lot and Lakeside learnt what a great set of additions could soon be joining our school community.
